The board of the Sudanese Society for Research on Art and Humanities are pleased to launch on its website: www.sudan-forall.org, the first issue of “Respect (Ihtiram), Sudanese Journal for Human Rights’ Culture and issues of cultural diversity”.
At this critical juncture in the history of our country, it’s imperatively vital that we work really hard for the advancement of human rights values and concepts, to be deeply entrenched into the minds and souls of our people. Without implanting and nurturing such awareness it would be intricately difficult to spread the long sought after culture of peace, democracy and co-existence which would engender values of solidarity and reciprocal interaction between, and hence, enrichment of all Sudanese cultures. In this light, we hopefully anticipate that Respect would help enhance the joint efforts exerted by other democratic civic society organizations in the process of consolidating the culture of human rights; appraisal of our diverse cultures and instilling the promise of creative dialogue between these cultures.
In addition to papers to be published for the first time, Respect is pleased to make it possible for studies and research presented at workshops, symposiums, and conferences handling issues of human rights and the veracity of issues of cultural diversity of our country and similar situations through out the world. The crucial objective is to make such studies and research findings available for a wider audience. That asks for making a hard copy of the journal available as soon as we could make it possible for the benefit of the sons and daughters of our country and others, in the Sudan and abroad.
Respect (Ihtiram) is a quarterly journal. Each new issue would be consigned to a single pivotal issue dealing with one of the various key facets of human rights and cultural diversity. Special issues on particularly significant occasions and/or events will also be considered in the future.
The editorial board is very grateful to all contributors in this first issue and welcomes your future involvement and contributions. Finally, we hope that a creative and profitable discussion and dialogue would ensue from the papers and studies published in this issue.
